กลยุทธ์สร้างพอร์ตหุ้น เวลาที่คิดจะลงทุนในตลาดหุ้นผมมักจะจินตนาการเหมือนว่ากำลังส่งกองทัพไปทำสงครามในสนามรบแห่งหนึ่งโดยมีตัวผมเองเป็นเสนาธิการ เรื่องแรกที่ผมจะต้องคิดก็คือ วัตถุประสงค์หรือเป้าหมายที่ต้องการบรรลุนั่นก็คือเรื่องของผลตอบแทนที่จะได้รับถ้าชนะสงคราม—หรือแพ้ โดยทั่วไปกฎของผมก็คือกฎของสงครามนั่นคือ เราต้องไม่แพ้ ถ้าคิดว่ามีโอกาสแพ้พอสมควรผมก็จะไม่เข้า เรื่องที่สองก็คือผมจะต้องประเมิน “สนามรบ” หรือชัยภูมิหรือสถานที่ที่จะเข้าตี ผมจะต้องดูว่ามันอยู่ในทำเลที่ยากมากน้อยแค่ไหน มันเอื้ออำนวยหรือมันเป็นเนินเขาสูงที่มีป้อมปราการทำให้คนที่เข้าไปอยู่ในจุดที่เสียเปรียบและเอาชนะได้ยากหรือไม่ เพราะผมเชื่อในกฎของสงครามที่ว่า คนที่เข้าไปตีข้าศึกหรือเป็นฝ่ายรุกนั้นจะต้องใช้ความพยายามมากกว่าฝ่ายรับหลายเท่า เรื่องสุดท้ายในฐานะของเสนาธิการก็คือ ผมจะต้องกำหนดกลยุทธ์การศึกที่จะทำให้ผมบรรลุเป้าหมายในการทำสงคราม     เปรียบเทียบกับการลงทุนในตลาดหุ้นที่ผมทำอยู่ในตลาดหุ้นไทยตลอด 20 ปีที่ผ่านมา ผมเริ่มมีความรู้สึกเมื่อ 2-3 ปีที่ผ่านมาว่าผลตอบแทนจากการลงทุนในตลาดหุ้นไทยนั้นน่าจะถดถอยลงมาก ในระยะยาวต่อ
